#1 DOCTOR RECOMMENDED
  • A Name You Can Trust – More doctors and hospitals recommend Saebo products for stroke rehabilitation than any other brand.
  • Backed by Research – To maximize recovery following a stroke (or other neurological injury), doctors understand the critical importance of “grasp and release” hand exercises. As the saying goes: “Use it or loose it”.  Using your hand throughout the day and during high-repetition therapy sessions builds new connections in the brain (cortical plasticity) and offsets the negative impacts of neglect (atrophy and spasticty) which can lead to a painful and useless “claw-fist.”Read about exciting new research featuring the SaeboGlove here
  • Patient-Based Design – Our products are developed by doctors and clinicians incorporating years of “hands-on” experience with patients just like you. Here are some of “patient-based” features you’ll find on our unique and patented SaeboGlove design:

Improve Foot Recovery

Introducing the SaeboStim Spa

Looking to advance your recovery? This device provides circumferential "under water" nerve stimulation that is consistent, comfortable, and evenly distributed throughout the affected area. The SaeboStim Spa helps with foot/ankle weakness, tone/ spasticity, and lastly pain.

Function

The peripheral nervous system connects the nerves running from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body, including the arms, hands, legs, and feet. When nerves are injured or destroyed, they can’t send messages from the brain to your extremities and vice versa. Nerve damage in the feet can result in numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, pain and/or burning sensation.

The SaeboStimSpa is a breakthrough device that can calm the nerves and increase blood flow, which allows the nerve cells the potential to recover.

Design

  • The SaeboStim Spa is a neurological foot bath/spa that provides extremely safe, low-level electrical stimulation in a spa-like experience. It is designed to improve sensation, reduce spasticity, improve function, and decrease pain in the foot.
  • The device works by submerging your affected foot and the associated rubber electrodes into the water. Keep your foot submerged for 30 minutes of nerve stimulation that works to alleviate symptoms associated with foot drop.
  • The SaeboStim Spa isn’t just for survivors suffering from stroke and other neurological injuries. It can also help treat additional conditions, including peripheral neuropathy and nerve pain disorders that can affect the hands.

FAQs

How does it work?
  • Following a neurological injury, it is common for clients to experience impaired foot or arm function, resulting in decreased sensation and/or strength.
  • Limited use in the affected limb may lead to impaired communication to the brain, including sense of touch, feel, or awareness of movement.
  • Unfortunately, most individuals do not receive enough training or stimulation to their affected side, which is needed to maximize recovery. For this reason, the SaeboStim Spa is the perfect solution to add to your recovery toolbox.
  • Even though low-level sensory stimulation does not produce a muscle contraction, it still stimulates the foot or hand, increasing the signals sent to the brain. These signals excite the brain and help to improve recovery.
  • The device works by submerging the affected foot (or hand) and the associated rubber electrodes into the water for a 30-minute stimulation session.
  • The SaeboStim Spa provides circumferential underwater nerve stimulation that is consistent, comfortable and evenly distributed throughout the affected area. This form of stimulation surrounds the targeted tissue with a soothing and uniform level of current that treats the underlying conditions.
  • The SaeboStim Spa consists of 3 components.
Is underwater electrical stimulation safe?

Yes, aquatic nerve stimulation has been used safely in clinics and at home for decades.

How is the SaeboStim Spa different from typical foot spas?

The SaeboStim Spa treats neuropathy symptoms, helping improve circulation and reduce pain, tingling, and numbness using electrical stimulation. Foot spas, on the other hand, are typically for relaxation and relieving sore and tired feet. They include features such as multiple heat settings, vibration massage, pumice stones, essential oils, etc. They provide a relaxing spa experience, not therapeutic value.

Is a therapist required to provide the SaeboStim Spa to clients?

No, anyone can order and safely use the SaeboStim Spa.

How frequently should the SaeboStim Spa be used?

Research suggests that individuals suffering from stroke and other neurological and orthopedic injuries appear to receive the most benefit when electrical stimulation to the targeted area is provided for at least 30 minutes per day.

What is Sensory Electrical Stimulation (SES)?

SES is the application of electrical currents to the sensory nerves or pathways to influence sensory perception directly. A neurological injury such as a stroke can result in limited use of the hand or arm, causing impaired sensory communication to the brain (touch, feel, awareness of joint movement).

With SES, the main goal is to maximize input by providing stimulation in the form of electrical pulses at a very low level (i.e., without producing a muscle contraction).

How do I know it is right for me (or my client)?

The SaeboStim Spa is designed for individuals that have had injuries that result in:

  • Weakness or spasticity
  • Foot or hand pain
  • Foot or hand edema
  • Temperature changes in the foot or hand

Some diagnoses that may benefit from use of the SaeboStim Spa include but are not limited to:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • MS
  • Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)
  • ALS
  • Brachial plexus injuries
  • Hand injuries
  • RSD or CRPS
  • Raynaud’s
  • Peripheral neuropathy

The onset of the injury does not prevent someone from receiving Saebo treatment. Whether the client just had a stroke or orthopedic injury, or if he or she suffered an injury years ago, the SaeboStim Spa can be of great benefit.

What can I expect?
  • The SaeboStim Spa is easy to apply and use, following the simple steps outlined in the manual.
  • You will be in full control of the settings. Once the device is turned on, you will feel a mild tingling sensation as the intensity increases.
  • This device is not intended to produce movement in your foot or hand. The purpose is to provide very low-level stimulation, which will travel deep into your tissues and up to your brain.
  • This form of “non-movement” stimulation will assist in healing and improve areas such as spasticity, pain, skin temperature, and more.
  • SaeboStim Spa covers the entire foot or hand for full stimulation.
  • Like all medical treatments, the amount of recovery cannot be guaranteed. However, the more motivated and compliant you are with the daily home program, the better your outcome.
Will the unit operate while plugged into the wall?

No.

What happens if the stimulation device is accidentally dropped into the water?

If the stimulation device is dropped into the footbath while in use (but not plugged into the wall), the user will not get a shock, but the unit will die.

What is Electrical Stimulation?

Electrical stimulation or neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is a technique used to elicit a muscle contraction using electrical impulses. Electrodes, controlled by a unit, are placed on a specific area of the skin. Electrical current is then sent from the unit to the electrodes and delivered into the nerves and muscles to cause a contraction, helping to stimulate the muscles and nerves in the affected area and prevent atrophy.
